In this project, I worked as Product UX/UI designer. We did an analysis of support requests, review of analytics, comparison competitors, interface testing, and user interviews.
The tasks had very tight and strict deadlines therefore the work was intensive and it was necessary to produce the maximum result.
Problem
The platform is filled with quality content but very concedes in the functionality of competitors. Together with the product manager, we had to identify and remove the main pain points of the product.
Solution
After process support requests, comparing competitors, and review analytics, it's decided to start by adding a training section, updating onboarding, and dashboarding.
About the project
The content of the platform is developed by American trainers, nutritionists, psychologists, and life coaches. Wispence contains scientific knowledge of human physiology and psychology, practical advice, and special tools for their implementation in life. The mission of the project - to help you live consciously, improve the quality of life and fill each day with positive energy.
Training section
How it was:
you can do one workout per day if it's scheduled in the schedule;
the user doesn't know which training will be next;
you can't choose a workout by yourself, you have to do the workout offered by the platform;
change of training programs is limited (no more than five times a day);
there is additional content on the platform that has low activity.
Research
Besides the analysis of support requests and compare competitors, we did about 20+ interviews. They confirmed our main hypotheses about the training section:
people want to review the workout before taking it and choose it according to how they feel;
but not everyone has the time or desire to choose their workout, they trust what the platform offers;
new users need to evaluate the quantity and quality of content offered.
The positive thing was that the company and users are close and loyal to each other. We heard from people a sincere desire to help develop the product and almost no one was late for an interview!
The minus was that analytics was very poorly set up at this stage and we couldn't see all the data we wanted before we started working on hypotheses.
Tight restrictions in select of workouts forced our users to «cheat the system». They passed a workout, changed the schedule, and passed the next workout.
"I'm not comfortable with not having inventory (rollers, weights, etc.) prescribed. Because I need to prepare in advance and maybe I don't have these items. It wasn't very convenient. I had to replace the workout with something else".
Anastasiya
"I was going to get my strength training in today. I have a light program selected and the scheduled workout is yoga for 11 minutes. I went through it and that's it, no more workout is available for today. I would like to do workouts from different programs. Maybe more than one if it's an 11-minute workout".
Iryna
"I like everything about the classes. The quality of the workouts, the filling, the encouragement during the workouts. The only thing is that I would like to go through training from the basic program and yoga, for example".
Natallya
We also realized:
one intense workout for 30 minutes is not enough for everyone;
some people want to do one more relaxing workout after the intensive workout;
people want to have an opportunity to choose which workout they will do.
Why did we start with training?
This is the main functionality of the platform. According to analytics, users mostly go for training, and after analyzing the complaints and requests, we noticed the need to update this functionality. Also at the level of competitors, the content (workouts) holds the bar, but the functionality of the platform loses.
How it became:
after building the user flow and designing prototypes, we ran tests, made edits, and there are the changes we made to the platform;
we added a workout section;
in addition to workouts in the section appeared exercises that were previously hidden in the Knowledge Base;
we added Сhosen workouts and exercises;
descriptions to workouts and focus areas.
Results
Three months after the updates, we measured the effectiveness of the innovations:
the number of workouts completed had not changed. It shows that people were also exercising on the platform as before;
the change in training program decreased by more than three times! That is, users stopped hacking the platform to complete another or more than one workout per day;
users found the workouts because their browsing increased more than three times!

Onboarding Update
How it was:
a lot of fields, texts and illustrations;
steps that users skip (e.g., go through and evaluate a workout) training;
7 days of limited access.
What we did:
reduced the number of fields and the amount of information on the screens;
removed inefficient steps;
added questions to personalize content;
moved personal data input to the end of the onboarding;
added 7 days of free full access to all the content and functionality on the platform with the condition of subscribing to an annual plan.
Results
Conversion to registration increased by almost 15%. There are more purchases from onboarding than from registration. Also, the speed of onboarding increased, because steps became more obvious and transparent, and their number decreased.
But this is not the end of onboarding. We have connected SmartLook and found some new problems in the analytics. We made hypotheses for why people leave onboarding, what can/should be improved, and how to make more purchases on onboarding. Tested them in interviews and spot updates to onboarding are already planned.

Dashboard
How it was:
on the dashboard provided the amount of water the user should drink per day
workout for the day;
after onboarding, everyone was offered the same workout program regardless of preference or goal;
difficult access to additional content in the app;
no personalization.
Research
During the interview, comparing competitors and analyzing the position of the product, we noticed that it lacks a water tracker, content personalization, quick access to additional platform materials (blog, workouts).
How it became:
added a water tracker;
added recommended workouts by user preference;
offer a current workout program depending on your onboarding goals (previously there was one for everyone);
bring exercises, meditations and articles from the blog for quick access.
Results
We ran about 20 tests of designs and prototypes, gradually making changes to them. Also, after discussing the terms of reference with the development department, we realized that changes need to be implemented gradually. That's why described here only the part of the work that we've done so far.
We analyzed the already prepared functionality, prepared new hypotheses for which we conducted fresh interviews (about 10). We realized that we chose the right direction, but it's still worth developing the dashboard, and have already sketched out a few ideas.
